Scholarship Benefits:
If you are selected for the merit-based scholarship at the University of Hamburg, you will receive:
- A monthly stipend of up to €930.
- Depending on available funds, individual doctoral researchers may receive a total scholarship amount of €1,200 per month (approximately 2-3 merit-based scholarships are awarded each semester).

Application Criteria
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- You qualify for funding if you:
- Have been enrolled in your degree program at the University of Hamburg for at least two semesters and are pursuing a degree (students in two-year master’s degree programs and doctoral researchers can apply after completing one semester).
- Do not hold German citizenship.
- Are not eligible for the federal student loan program.
- Merit-based scholarships are awarded for two semesters (a total of 12 months).
- You can reapply for the scholarship.
- The maximum funding period may extend up to 3 years in justified exceptional cases.
- Merit-based scholarships are disbursed on the first day of each month of funding. Funding starts on October 1 for the application round ending on April 15 and on April 1 of the following year for the application round ending on October 15.
Note:
- Scholarships cannot be paid into a foreign bank account.
- Academic leave is not permitted during the funding period.
- Scholarship results will be communicated approximately 8 to 11 weeks after the application deadline.
Selection Criteria:
- Good to excellent academic performance.
- Verifiable knowledge and other abilities (e.g., presentations, publications, awards; additional specialized skills).
- Previous funding.
- Social activities (e.g., proof of voluntary work).
- Need/social situation.
- Amount and duration of funding.
